1. For most humans, the drive to reproduce is an overwhelming, sometimes irrational desire. That's how we're wired. Some will go to any length, especially if they can afford it. 2. Because of said drive to reproduce, the decision to adopt isn't easy for everyone. Or else more people would adopt even if they weren't infertile. 3. Adoption is an incredibly expensive process with plenty of hoops to jump through. And the birth mother can still change her mind and you're left (again) with no child.
