For God so loved THE WORLD that He gave His only begotten Son, that WHOSOEVER believeth in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life.I can just see this pastor sitting with the Old Testament in one hand, the NT - with its pie-in-the-sky, cack-handedly optimistic message of love and redemption - closed as he mutters, "wow, I can't believe Jesus missed the mark so completely. Obviously the translators mucked this up, cause this love-thy-neighbour and judge-not-lest-ye-be-judged nonsense just doesn't make sense."
