Anyone committed to the concepts of social justice, be they Christian or otherwise, should understand that misuse of religion in this way is - frankly - obscene, and that non-GOP Christians ("gasp! I thought they were only mythical creatures!") and non-American Christians ("the hWHAT? The heyyyy-eck youuu seh. Nawn, Ah seh, NAWN-Amurkun Chrisjins? Cain't really be Chrisjins though, kin they?") are mostly baffled and distressed by this sort of crap.

) being assembled on the Sojourners website.

This was my blurb:

I'm someone who not only believes in the biblical call to social justice, but grew up steeped in it.

More, I believe that **opposing** the concepts of social justice... well, it is an obscenely immoral and heretical position for ^anyone^ to take, let alone someone claiming to represent the faithful. False prophets and deceitful leaders don't fare very well in the literature.

How can you possibly claim that the very things Christ said to do (serve the poor, minister to the sick, visit the imprisoned, support the orphans and widows, etc etc) are wrong FOR CHRISTIANS to do?! [Surely not, JUST because Obama said it was a good idea, all with "character-building"-this and "teaching children to put others first"-that? Surely not?]

It's an argument I could maybe "see", coming from an anarchist or a nihilist, but a member of the LDS? The public and self-declared spokesman for "the-party-what's-NOT-evil-socialist-fascist-dictating-totalitarian-hippy-free-love-tree-huggers"?

I believe in God's will for justice in every aspect of our individual, social, and economic lives.

Christie Bradley, 39-year-old married mother of two from Waterloo, Missouri, has been arrested for allegedly trying to have sex with a 13-year-old boy. Court documents say the 13 year old (about the same age as her own children) boy told police that Bradley kissed him on the lips at his home on September 19th. He also told police that Bradley communicated with him through Facebook and text messages.

The documents say an investigator started posing as the boy and communicated with Bradley through text messages and several sexually explicit messages were exchanged between Bradley and the undercover agent.

Among them- the agent asked Bradley, "Do I need to get condoms? Or do u have some?" Bradley allegedly replied, "I'll get some. Then u don't have 2 worry bout gettn caught with them. We have 2 use them."

Mrs Bradley also sent boy another message asking, "Do u want me 4 me or do u want me 4 the sex." [...]

Court documents say arrangements were made for Bradley to show up at the teen's home Wednesday for sex. We're told she showed up with lingerie and condoms and was arrested without incident.

This article was written in mid-2009, but given that there are already at least two Facebook fan pages for the idiot who flew into the IRS building, I thought it was worth posting.

It's almost a cliché, but still very true: whether someone is labelled a terrorist or a "freedom fighter" depends entirely on the ideology of the viewer.

If this IRS plane guy had been named Akmal, the whole country would be up in arms, and any FB fanpage lionizing him would be violently protested as glorifying terrorism.

what Feminism isn't

There was a post on the "STFU, Conservatives" blog recently, which I partially requote below:

"as much as Feminism CLAIMS to be about equality for women, in reality it’s a self-serving philosophy that teaches women to feel ENTITLED to everything that men have had to earn.

Women feel ENTITLED to the same pay as men without working the same hours or in the same dangerous jobs as men.

Well, "bollocks", for starts. I'm not a man-hating, balls-to-the-wall feminazi, but I'm grateful for the work other people did to provide me with the freedoms I now have. And this man is a complete arsehat.

Episode 1:

London, 2002: I am a Helpdesk Manager, responsible for Application Support for 1500 users across Europe and North America, with 2 FTE employees reporting to me. A man in a suit wanders up and looks at me quizzically. I say, "Morning! How can I help?" and he says, "Hi. Um... our Admin Assistant is off sick, could you take minutes for our meeting?"

Convince me that would have happened if I was a bloke.

Episode 2:

Brisbane, 2006: I am a Project Administrator, responsible for a team of engineers doing FIFO work in and out of the Northern Territory. The second week, a woman came up to me and said, "now, the kitchen roster... L was on for Mondays, so I'll just put you down for that?". Um.. Is this a voluntary roster? "oh, yes, all the girls are on it!" Right. I un-volunteer. "oh... Really??"

I looked at her and said, "when you've got someone on that list who doesn't have a uterus, come back and talk to me."

Again - how many blokes are on a fucking roster to clean the kitchens at work? I'm not going on it just because I don't have a penis.

To me, that shows me that we haven't achieved even equality yet - never mind the rest of the original poster's drivel.

Off to buy overalls and burn someone's bra.

Not exactly, but I'm going to say when I was 12, on a mountain in PNG, with a gaggle of village kids. Cheap Chinese ones that only lasted a day before splitting or tearing.

Not really, and that generational line starts to blur at my age anyway. People always have & always will screw up. People always have & always will discover something new then sneer at those who didn't know it. We do the best we can, generally.

Problems have arisen (the statue was built by North Korean labor, has no distinct African theme, and features a female who reveals perhaps too much thigh). However, according to a November BBC News dispatch, Senegal's president Abdoulaye Wade remains optimistic and has declared that, though the concept was his idea, he personally will magnanimously take only 35 percent of the revenue streams generated from visitors.
